Collections — and the last progression verdicts
Canon
Collections are Almanac sections. The earned-only book of deeds
grows a collections chapter per system — gathering collections, fish
collections (the fishing canon already points here), creature and boss
collections (the bestiary's completion view), cosmetic collections —
all earned by playing, tracked forever, never purchasable. Completing a
collection pays titles, badges, cosmetics, and small permanent
bonuses through the existing relic-bonus route (XpBonusSource-style
rate hooks — a completion bonus is a relic bonus's sibling, never a
progression write).
Reputation is dead, permanently. Eight ratified pages carried "unless a reputation system is ever designed" — this session ends the clause. Quest flags record region contribution, Almanac deeds record accomplishment, island gates govern access; a parallel reputation number duplicates all three. Resurrecting it would take a vision-level case, not a parking-lot bullet.
The other two V1 remnants are already canon by other names: Unlock Progression is the ratified gate vocabulary (skill gates live, quest flags live, deed gates reserved — plus the unlock-feedback UX the world-system and level-up toasts define), and Profession Levels is the shipped vocabulary (20 skills 1–100 + Profession Mastery 1–10).
With this page, every V1 System-intake bullet is adjudicated.
Decisions
D-COLLECTIONS-01 — collections fold into the Almanac, with rate-hook completion bonuses (proposed)
The Almanac is the one earned-only book; collections are its
per-system chapters. Completion rewards may include small permanent
bonuses via the existing relic XpBonusSource route — earned-only,
hook-routed, audit-identical to relics.
Rejected: a standalone collections system (an earned-only book beside the earned-only book); cosmetic-only completion rewards (drops V1's progression-boost intent when a sanctioned route already exists).
D-COLLECTIONS-02 — reputation is killed, permanently (proposed)
Owner ruling. Every conditional "unless designed" across the corpus resolves to no. Quest flags + deeds + gates already carry the load; region identity lives in questlines and island content, not a meter.
Rejected: parking indefinitely (leaves eight pages' clauses dangling — the ambiguity this verdict exists to end); reputation-lite (a progress bar over data quest flags already hold).
D-COLLECTIONS-03 — the remnant fate table (proposed)
| V1 idea | Fate |
|---|---|
| Unlock Progression (doc) | Superseded — the ratified gate vocabulary + unlock feedback UX |
| Profession Levels (doc) | Superseded — 20 skills + Profession Mastery 1–10 (shipped vocabulary) |
| Reputation Systems (doc) | Dead (D-COLLECTIONS-02) |
| Collection leaderboards | Adopted via hfrecords boards where wanted |
| Seasonal / event collections | Deferred → events content, inside the no-FOMO edge |
| Hidden collections / secret collectibles | Adopted as content flavor (pairs with hidden nodes and easter eggs) |
| Mount/pet collection rewards | Routed — pets via htpets, looks via the wardrobe path |
| Profession prestige / profession guilds | Dead — prestige is the skills system's; guilds are guilds |
Rejected: designing deferred items now.
Tuning
data/collections.json— collection categories, completion thresholds, bonus magnitudes (rate-hook routed). Owner-edited; categories land with each system's content pass.
Implementation
Owning mod: mods/hfalmanac (extension — collections are new Almanac
sections on the existing component and codec discipline; a schema
change goes through the STORAGE.md design-doc route). Completion
bonuses ride the existing XpBonusSource provider hook. Collection
progress writes come from the same provider-hook observations the
bestiary already uses.
Open questions
- Collection categories and thresholds per system — content passes.
- Bonus magnitudes — owner tuning.
- Whether the Almanac UI needs a collections tab redesign — HyUI probe territory when hfalmanac UI work runs.
